Summary
CADmech’s client, an automotive Tier 1 supplier, engaged our team to develop an easy-access instrument panel switch assembly.
The Specifics
The parts were designed for high-volume injection molding and included motion control and positioning features, elastomers for touch sensitivity, spring return and electronic contacts. Translucent silicon was used for button spring/control and allowed backlighting of the buttons by directing light from PCB mounted LED’s. Snap fit features were designed to eliminate the need for hardware and subsequent labour intensive assembly. Working with Class-A studio surfaces and developing low-cost, robust mechanisms can be a challenge, however CADmech’s clients’ rely on our expertise is this field.
Services Provided
CADmech provided the following services in this project:
– Concept design/brainstorming
– Mechanical design
– Technical analysis
