Summary
CADmech’s client, an automotive Tier 1 supplier, engaged our team to develop an instrument panel switch assembly used to control different driving scenarios for a 4×4 vehicle. Due to the variety of consumer options available, several different versions of these assemblies were created.
The Specifics
The parts were all designed for high-volume injection molding and included motion control and positioning features, elastomers for touch sensitivity, spring return and electronic contacts. Light pipes directed light from PCB based LED’s to the visable button location. Snap fit features were designed and used to eliminate the need for hardware and subsequent labour intensive assembly. Working with Class-A studio surfaces and developing low-cost, robust mechanisms can be a challenge, however CADmech’s clients’ rely on our expertise is this field.
