Summary

Adjusting designs is a necessary, but costly, part of the design process. These costs can be minimized in VR experiences catered towards designers. This project targets designers in numerous industries and aims to expedite and improve the design review process. Users are able to get more out of their review process by carrying out important testing operations (e.g. ergonomic studies) in a completely immersive environment with a digital twin of their design, reducing the number of costly prototype and design iterations.

Less revision, more precision

Engineering VR tools allow for in-depth design reviews prior to prototype creation. Ultimately, such a tool reduces project time/cost and time to market for a design.

Pictured in this experience is a large motor and frame, for a transport vehicle. The design must be optimized, though, to allow for maintenance workers to be able to reach critical components comfortably and safely for repair with their tools. In this VR experience, we can confirm the ergonomics of the design without having to create an expensive prototype. We can also look at the design from multiple angles and move it around the environment with simple, swift motions.

Annotation is also possible, so that multiple designers can review the design and understand their peer’s point of view for future changes. This VR experience allowed the designers to quickly identify the pros and cons of their design without prototyping; meaning project time and budgets are greatly reduced without the need for length/expensive prototyping and design reviews.
