Summary

This AR experience is created for and targets maintenance crews that have to assemble and maintain complex mechanisms such as pumps, HVAC systems, etc. The aim of this project in particular is to create a visual comprehensive guide to disassembly, assembly and repair. It accomplishes this by compiling all necessary part information into the application and creating helpful animations of the disassembly and assembly process.

A simplified training and repair experience

This AR experience compiles the most necessary information of a pump and its specifications, and presents this information in a comprehensive way. The application allows the user to see, from any angle, what the disassembly and assembly process is like for the complex mechanism. In chronological order, the application outlines the steps and shows the user how disassembly is done. During this process, the user can click on any component for more information. More information includes specifications such as part name, size of certain bolts, torque specs, etc.

Engineering schematics/drawings or datasheets are also available within the application, in-case more intrusive repair is needed.

This application also contains IoT capabilities. The virtual twin is connected to the real pump, and sensors inside of the pump are able to tell the user what the flow rate or water pressure is, in real time.

The versatility and ease of use of this application make it an incredible tool for both training and regular infield maintenance work. Both workers and trainees no longer need to memorize or search through incredibly detailed manuals to find torque specifications or steps for repair. Furthermore, with IoT integration, maintenance crews can be sure the mechanism is working as intended after repair, making sure metrics are at their optimal levels.
