Engineering Analysis
Be confident in the strength of your design and validate it through simulated analysis.
Verifying designs through simulation and testing
Engineering analysis is a key piece of the product design process. It allows designers to understand their design better, refine it, and meet functional requirements and standards long before manufacturing, minimizing unforseen costs during or after manufacturing. Further physical testing of a functional prototype brings even more confidence to a design, making sure it performs based on your needs and requirements.
Simulated Analysis
Tolerance Analysis & Motion Studies
Understand the extent of variations available in a design and how they will impact manufacturability while testing it through a series of physical interactions.
Structural Analysis - FEA
Predict how your design will react to real-world forces including vibrations, heat, fatigue, etc. This process allows us to ensure the strength of their design is high enough to withstand the real world post production.
Thermal Management - CFD
Accurately predict heat transfer in your design to determine high temperature locations (hot spots). This allows us to understand how to dissipate heat better, making sure the design isn’t succeptible to heat-related failure.
Physical Testing
Simulated engineering analysis, although important, is not always enough. In the event that your design needs to reach testing standards for approval certifications, our team coordinates and manages product testing for numerous certifications (e.g. CSA/UL/FM). Both finished designs and prototypes can be physically tested. CADmech is experienced in rapid prototyping in our in-house workshop and can help you prototype and test design iterations throughout the product development cycle.
Virtual Reality Testing
Some physical testing is also available in a simulated environment, namely ergonomics testing. Designs often need to be created with maintenance, repair, and the “human factor” in mind. When designing a bus frame, we must be sure a repair person can reach bolts from where they stand. Such analyses can be done cheaper and quicker in a virtual reality simulated environment than with a real prototype.
Project Scope
At CADmech we believe that every project has much to be gained from engineering analysis studies. They serve as the preliminary form of testing that allows a design to be optimized. Every project we work on includes an engineering analysis phase that allows us to understand where we can improve our work.
Our typical simulated engineering analysis process happens as follows:
- A static/dynamic FEA that is based on defined load cases and boundary conditions
- The design is then optimized based on the results of the FEA
- Thermal analysis of electronic components alongside airflow analysisand thermal mass calculations using CFD techniques
What You Can Expect
As a group of designers hold themselves to high standards, as well as the standards of numerous certifications and associations for quality assurance, our clients can expect full analyses in the interest of their project, making sure every piece is designed correctly and optimized as much as possible.
When starting an engineering analysis process with CADmech, expect:
- A full understanding of the structural/thermal requirements your project requires. Our experience and expertise in the field allows us to immediately understand the requirements most designs bring with them.
- At least a baseline anlysis for further optimization. Every design we create undergoes this analysis.
- Collaboration with your engineering team to suggest improvements (material, design, etc.) Design is collaborative in nature, and we always work with everyone involved to improve.
- A Final Analysis Report that is supported with computer models and other documentation. This helps our clients understand exactly our decision making process and maintain records of it.
