As 2020 comes underway and 2019 is left behind, all of us here at CADmech would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year! We hope everyone had wonderful holidays that are filled with warmth, happiness, generosity and family. But before we continue with the new year, we must see what 2019 has brought us!
What a year 2019 has been. CADmech has taken leaps and bounds and is extremely excited for what 2020 has in store for us. But we can never move forward without looking at where we have been. 2019, for us, has been not just a year marked by more exciting projects, but a year marked by expansion and getting out of our comfort zone.
Solutions – In A Different Reality
In 2019, we have been incredibly excited to introduce a new field to our existing list of services. Extended Reality (XR) is an exciting field of technology that is taking the world by storm, whether it be used for enterprise solutions, education, entertainment, or for a plethora of other uses! XR is the overarching term used for all different streams of immersive technology: Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). Using the form of XR best suited to a client’s application, we create digital solutions which help increase efficiency, make work more effective, and cut own costs in numerous industries and fields of work. XR technology is extremely versatile in what it can do and who it can help. Read more about XR and the different streams here and read some of our blogs on XR to gain insight on different uses!
Vancouver Expansion
2019 didn’t just bring an expansion of work to a new field, but a physical expansion as we began our journey across Canada! Our Marketing & Communications Representative has been working out of our Downtown Vancouver location since August 2019. Bringing CADmech to the West Coast means more opportunities to create innovative and excellent solutions with a plethora of companies from Vancouver as well as surrounding areas! We are always excited to work with new people and new companies to help bring their ideas to life or improve existing ideas.
Conferences
Oculus Connect 6
Oculus Connect is Facebook’s annual VR conference, which in 2019 happened at the end of September in San Jose. Our Lead VR/AR Developer, Victor Truong, had the pleasure of attending and learning about all the new improvements to the Oculus VR platform, as well as other things all XR that Facebook is working on! Read more about Oculus Connect 6 from the day 1 blog as well as the recap blog!
Forbes Under 30 Summit
CADmechXR brought itself to the Forbes Under 30 Summit in Detroit at the end of October 2019! We partnered with MentallyVR to present a virtual reality therapy session at the summit, which shows that VR has numerous applications in healthcare. This summit further showed that VR is not just for gaming or engineering but can be used to treat PTSD or other forms of mental health Issues! You can read more about how VR can be used for mental health improvement on our blog here!
2019 VRAR Global Summit
This past year at the 2019 VRAR Global Summit we got to exhibit our new XR work in Vancouver, BC! We met many new and interesting people, all with different ideas for where XR can take the world of engineering and solutions. The experience was not useful to just bring attention to our own XR ventures, but to also learn about what other companies are using VR for, or why they have a need for VR! These summits are always helpful for the sharing of ideas that helps push technology forward. We were so happy to be a part of it! You can read more about our experience at the VRAR Global Summit here!
Certifications & Recognitions
ISO Certification
Being recognized for our work, as well as our work standards, is very important to us at CADmech. While most of our engineers hold Professional Engineer certifications (PEng), and CADmech is part of the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), we are always looking to expand the list of our certifications to be able to better serve more clientele. In 2019, CADmech obtained the ISO-9001-2015 certificate from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The ISO certification ensures the highest of quality management system in the firm. This means that all our processes during design and implementation complies with ISO standards, ensuring the highest quality work from CADmech. In 2020 we have plans to expand to a nuclear industry certification, enabling expansion into another lucrative market.
Clutch.co Canadian Top 5
In the short time we have been doing work in the XR field, Clutch.co has already put us in the top 5 companies in Canada to be doing work in virtual & augmented reality! Our work and presence in XR is still emerging and we are looking forward to enhancing our expertise in the field and build useful VR solutions!
Facebook Oculus ISV Program
The end of 2019 also brought us acceptance into Oculus’ ISV program! This is Facebook Oculus’ program, which works with enterprise developers and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and provides assistance to accelerate customer adoption of VR solutions built specifically for Oculus products. You can read the benefits of a headset like the Oculus Quest here! As part of the program, CADmech gets access to Oculus resources and support for our development, allowing us to develop our solutions faster and more effectively! All of this allows our clients to get a better working and robust product.
