Summary
Designing for manufacturability is critical to the production of plastic components. This is especially true when deflection of the part is required for functionality, such as integrated latching/snap fit features. These products, a dust-bin, a “Wet Floor” sign and a mop head each posed design challenges to ensure defect free production.
Our Contribution
CADmech’s mechanical design team paid careful attention to material selection, parting line location and the design of the part dies themselves. Ergonomic considerations were also key to generating part geometry. In depth FEA analysis was performed to ensure that the mop head’s latching feature worked correctly straight from the tooling “first shots”.
